Duties and Responsibilities
The Tax Collector processes tax billings and collections for jurisdictions within Imperial County. Taxes include Secured real estate taxes, Supplemental taxes, Unsecured taxes (personal property taxes not secured to real estate) and Delinquent Secured and Unsecured taxes. The annual tax charge is over $70 million.
The Tax Collector also administers payment plans, as prescribed by R & T Code, and the state’s Property Tax Postponement and Homeowners Assistance programs for seniors, blind and disabled persons. The office conducts public auctions of tax defaulted properties. collects Transient Occupancy taxes, and business licenses fees. The Tax Collector also administers parcel map certificates and issues mobile home tax clearance certificates. This department is responsible for numerous legal notices, publications and other mandated requirements.

TAX SALE POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 29TH
The Tax Sale has been postponed due to technical difficulties with Bid 4 Assets computer software. The matter has been corrected and the auction will begin on March 29th, 2008 at 8:00am Pacific time and Close on April 1st, 2008 with various time frames.
Homeowners will have until 5:00pm on Friday March 28th to redeem any property before the sale.
Bid4Assets will be contacting and informing all qualified bidders of this problem and what steps need to be taken in order to complete the bidding process.
The County processes payments by check through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) electronic processing system. Under the ACH system, checks made payable to the County will be credited and debited the day after they arrive for processing. The transaction will be noted on the customers’ monthly bank statement as an electronic charge. Cancelled checks will not be returned unless requested.
