Welcome,

On behalf of all the staff at the Assessor’s Office and myself, I welcome you to tour our Web site. The purpose of the site is to allow you quick, convenient access to general information about the property assessment process as well as information on specific properties.

ASSESSOR    Jose M. Rodriguez, Jr.

Jose M. Rodriguez, Junior. is the 9th Assessor of Imperial County, he was appointed as the Assessor on December 15, 1999 by the Imperial County Board of Supervisors, following Mr. Michael R. Smith’s retirement. On March 05, 2002 he ran for office unopposed.

The focus of Mr. Rodriguez's administration has been to combine the technology, including the extensive use of the Geographic Information System (GIS), Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal  program, and the use of the Internet website to better serve the community of Imperial County, with emphasis on traditional public service.

The Assessor’s career spans 40 years, beginning in the Mapping Department as a Map Draftsman and culminating in his present position as Assessor.  After starting as a Map Draftsman, Mr. Rodriguez held the positions of Appraiser, Supervising Appraiser, and Chief Appraiser.  Prior to becoming Assessor, he served for 13 years as Assistant Assessor under Mr. Michael R. Smith’s administration.

He has successfully applied, for the past 3 years to the State Department of Finance for a $ 231,673 grant that has improved the operations of the office by purchasing all of the office ergonomic furniture, the office computers and helped fund the County’s Geographic Information System. Also, with the use of these funds, the office is in the process in becoming a paperless office by implementing an Imaging and Record Management System and is in the planning stages with the Treasurer/Tax Collector and Auditor Controller Office in acquiring an up-to-date Property Tax Management System.

In July of 2000, the County Executive Officer requested Mr. Rodriguez to coordinate the County’s second attempt in the development of the Imperial County Geographic Information System. With the help and coordination of all the Cities, Imperial Irrigation District, California Department of Transportation (Cal-Trans) and Bureau of Land Management  we successfully completed this project using state and federal funds at no cost to the General Fund.

As a community member of the City of Calexico, he served one term on the City Council and 17 years on the Calexico Unified School District Board of Trustees.

He’s a member of the California Assessor’s Association and serves on the Standards and Education Committees.

Mr. Rodriguez attended Imperial Valley College for 2 1/2 years majoring in Civil Engineering. Has successfully completed numerous State Board of Equalization Appraisal courses and possesses a State Board of Equalization  Advance Appraisers Certificate.

He is married to Gloria J. Rodriguez for 39 years and has a daughter Janette and a son Joseph and 3 grandchildren.
